Is Your Link Creating Technique the Appropriate One for Success?
Building links is a critical part of SEO if you want to get your sites ranked well. But youll want to be careful and avoid getting them from just any neighborhood. Link building if done the wrong way can turn out to be expensive, both in terms of money and time. If you really want to build links, then you have to do it ethically, the right way. And if you choose to take a shortcut, then you might just end up getting banned by Google and have your hard work go to waste. In recent years the link building process has been going through changes. Actually, building links is not any easier to do, its gotten a lot harder to do. Googles policies are more stringent on people who try to cheat and take short cuts. Still, there are many blackhat marketers who are always keen on using their own techniques to build links unethically through blog farms, comment spamming, etc. Simple speaking, effective and accepted backlinking requires time to execute, and thats why its easy for a marketer to make a mistake with backlinking.
Failing to check for the no follow tag is something a lot of marketers forget about, or dont know. The no-follow link tag simply tells the search engine spides they should not follow the link in a special way. If you put a link on a page that uses the no-follow attribute, you will not receive the link-juice you should be getting. So your efforts will be in vain. Its a good idea to check before posting, and it doesnt matter what kind of link it is.
Apart from this, there are many link exchanges that say they will help you with your link building, but you end up finding out that youve been duped. Using a link exchange can still work for you, and they are white hat SEO practice. But youll find that not every one of them will be worth the trouble. The usual scam scenario is youll buy a link, then your link is removed later or they have the no follow tag in place. So whenever youre building your links, you have to check from time to time if your link is valid or not, and work with a reputable link exchange if you have to.
Another comon mistake is approaching a webmaster to add a link for you on a page where there are already plenty of other links. Youll see far better results getting a link from a page that doesnt already send out backlinks to hundreds of other sites. Some of these link pages can have 200+ backlinks on them, so putting your link in with them wont help your efforts much. But on the flip side of it, many directories make use of the nofollow tag on non-paid links. If there were 200+ links on that page and you could get the webmaster to agree to not add a nofollow tag to yours, then it will count. In short, to ensure your link building is high quality, with relevant links from relevant sites, you should try and stay away from the mistakes we discussed above. Take it slowly and do what is right, and youll see great results for your site.
